ASUU WAHALA

Dr Liwhu betiang Wrote:
Hmm...I find our Honourable Minister of Education (whose volume of education I cannot quantify!) very interesting. It's like he likes wrestling, looking back at the recent mace-battering drama in his Rivers' home State Assembly. Upon all his bravura, he seems to have forgotten that his state has fallen to APC.
Beyond this, does he need to dare ASUU at a time that the Union was almost re-thinking its position because of Mr President's intervention? Has he really got the ear of the President in this recent outburst? Does this Hon.Minister Nyesom (without an ordinary PhD) know that it takes 15 years to make one University Academic?
By the way, did ASUU shut down Universities? The authorities that shut them down can re-open them and maybe bring in the likes of Hon Minister Nyesom and his Boys to teach...after all we do not even have the problem of brain-drain seeing how many graduates litter our unemployment streets. I think people who run government affairs should remember that they hold office on behalf of the people even when these positions come as presidential largesse...

On the 9th of November, 2013 Kebe Ikpi and former Miss Esther Efoli were joined in Holy matrimony at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG-Root of Jesse Calabar. The Traditional marriage was on the 6th of November, 2013 at Nko in Yakurr LGA, CRS.

Kebe is a Thespian from the University of Calabar. He is an award winning Director who has staged plays across the country both as a student and after he left school.

I recall the play AIREGIN staged at the University of Jos, Plateau State, directed by Kebe. In that play, he used his directorial rights to creatively restructure the original play. What came out was a prophesy. A prophesy that a Northerner will take over from Chief Obasanjo as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that Northerner will be taken away by mother nature (death), a man from the Niger-Delta will succeed him (first without election but by massive support of the people). If you remember the Nigerian political history very well, you will not need to guess what am talking about. 4 years after that play was staged, President Jonathan succeeded Late President Yar'Adua as C-in-C of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Lecturer jobs vacancy

FG declares war on ASUU, gives union one week to call off
The Federal Government has issued a one week ultimatum to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to call off the ongoing strike.

The union embarked on the action on July 1, 2013 over government’s refusal to implement the 2009 agreement both parties reached.

Acting Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, while briefing journalists Thursday morning in Abuja made the position of the FG known.

Pattogar Blog gathered that government has also given Vice Chancellors of Universities to declare the jobs of the striking lecturers vacant as from Wednesday, December 4.

Recall that the Union, last week, at the end of the ASUU NEC meeting, resolved to take a definite position on the government’s offer and the strike after meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan this week.

However, no date has been fixed for the meeting yet. By: Patt Eyaba

ALL THE SPORTS by Ime Morison

It was another weekend of pulsating action in sports. Our sports columnist shall bring you insights into the major actions...in this week's edition of ALL THE SPORTS.

SUPER, SUPER EAGLETS
The weekend bagan in fabulous style for Nigerians as the Golden Eaglets emerge world champions in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. The Nigerian team defeated defending champions Mexico 3-0 through an Aguirre's own-goal, a tap in from Kelechi Iheanacho and a superb free-kick from Muhammed. The victory underscored the Golden Eaglets superiority in the competition as it became the first team to win the trophy four times.
The Manu Garba-tutored side scored 25goals, while conceeding only four and dominated the awards ceremony as Kelechi Iheanacho won the Golden Ball, as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament; Silver Boot, as second highest goal scorer with six(6) goals; while Dele Alampasu won the Golden Gloves as the Best Keeper of the tournament.
With this victory, commendations must be extended to the ManuGarba led technical crew and indeed the NFF, who for once, made adequate pre-tournament preperation for the team. We hope the NFF have turned a new leaf in this regard even as we urge that the bulk of this team is maintained to graduate into the U-20 national side.

FABULOUS RONALDO
Cristiano dos Santos Aviero Ronaldo scored an incredible hat-trick against Real Sociedad to record his 23rd hat-trick for Real Madrid in a 5-1 win. Ronaldo opened the scoring with an angled drive before setting up striker Karim Benzema for the second. The Portuguese forward added a penalty and Gareth Bale fed Sami Khedira for the fourth.
Antoine Griezmann pulled one back but a Ronaldo free-kick wrapped up the win and his hat-trick. The Carlo Ancelotti's Los Blancos have scored 15 goals in the last three league games with Ronaldo scoring eight of them.
The 28-year-old former Manchester United player now has 27 goals in 19 matches for club and country this season, including four hat-tricks... Fabulous player...

UNSTOPABLE BAYERN
European champions Bayern Munich made history on saturday by becoming the first Bundesliga team to record 37 consecutive games unbeaten with a home win against FC Augsburg.
Jerome Boateng opened the score with a wonderful shot-on-the-turn. Franck Ribery added a second with a free-kick and Thomas Muller converted a spot-kick to make it 3-0.
The win, coupled with Borussia Dortmund's defeat by Wolfsburg, means that Bayern extend their lead at the top of the table to four points; it ensures that Bayern bettered Hamburger SV 36-match unbeaten sequence set in 1982-83, a record that has stood for 30 years. Also, Bayern's 10 wins and two draws after 12 games with new coach Pep Guardiola, is the best start to a season by a new Bundesliga coach. The Bavarian side looks unstoppable at the moment.

ROBIN "HOOD" PERSIE
Robin Van Persie rose highest to score a decisive goal that robbed former-club Arsenal of all three points in the pick of the weekend's EPL games. The ex-Gunner returned to haunt the team he once captained and made sure Manchester United maintained their 'Bogey Boys' status over the Gunners as well as lift the Old Trafford side up to fifth on the table.
The win has brought United to within five points of their rivals and dents Arsenal's credibility as title-challengers.
It was, to say the least, a disappointing end to a week in which Arsenal made major statements of intent against Liverpool in the Premier League and away to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

HISTORIC MARQUEZ
Marc Marquez finished third at the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix to become the youngest MotoGP champion.
Though Jorge Lorenzo won the race, with Dani Pedrosa second, the result meant Marquez, 20, finished just four points ahead of Lorenzo in the standings, the smallest points margin since 1992. It also meant that the young Spanish rider wrote his name into the history books.
In a stunning first year in the elite level of Bike-riders, Marques became the youngest winner of a premier class race with victory at the Circuit of the Americas in April; won the most races in a single season as a rookie with six and is the youngest to win four races back-to-back.
According to the elated rider:
"This is a dream that comes true. I cannot explain what I feel...I didn't expect to fight for the championship this season. Jorge Lorenzo did a great job but thanks to my team."
This is indeed a true testimony that when preperation meets opportunity, success is attainable...A big CONGRATULATIONS to the young lad!!!
We'll be back and better next week but don't forget that you can 'make your dreams come true' this week....cheers

ALL THE SPORTS with Ime Morison

The weekend was filled with great sporting spectacles as football leagues in Europe took centre stage. Our 'sportsman' Ime Morison would be reviewing all the weekend sports actions in our latest column ALL THE SPORTS.

MESSI ECLIPSE...?
World Player of the Year Lionel Messi has failed to score in a couple of games now for Barcelona following his return from a hamstring injury. He was recently out-shined in the El Classico by new acquisition Neymar jr., who scored and set-up Alexis Sanchez's superb second in their 2-1 win over bitter rivals Real Madrid. Neymar also provided the low cross that led to Barca's solitary goal in the weekend's Catalan Derby and is receiving rave review in the Catalunya Capital. Meanwhile Messi has failed to score in four successive La Liga matches, his longest goalless run since April 2011.
Barcelona's coach Tarta Martino had observed a 'dip' in Messi's performance level after the El Classico game;Messi, himself had commented that he is "not troubled" by his current goal drought...Could it be that the rise of £50million-signing Neymar is eclipsing the star of Messi at the Nou Camp...?

UNVIELING THE BALE
After the lack-lustre performance of El Classico, World-record signing Gareth Bale seems to have began the process of showing the world the stuffs he's made of. Though he scored on his debut, his progress in Madrid had been hampered by injury but Bale seemed to unveil the bale in mid-week when he scored two goals and assisted Karim Benzema, in his double and Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a hatrick, in the 7-3 mauling of Sevilla. He continued his vein of form by providing two goals in the weekend win over Rayo Vallecano;with that Bale has scored two and provided four assists in his last two La Liga games. With such performances the €100 million-signing is beginning to show the value of his bale...

ROMA'S REBIRTH
Torino, at the weekend held high-flying Roma to a 1-1 draw to halt their 100% start in Serie A. Roma became the first team to win the opening 10 matches of the Serie A season when they beat Chievo 1-0 on thursday. Roma leads the Italian league with three points ahead of Napoli and defending champions, Juventus. Roma's rebirth this season is anchored on strong performances that has seen the Rome-based outfit score 25 goals and concede only two. The Rudi Garcia tinkered side had invested heavily in the summer and aims to return to Europe next season. If they can maintain this form all season, we could be seeing a complete turn around in fortune for Italy's Capital club.

ARSENAL'S ANSWER...

Arsenal and Arsene Wenger this weekend answered some of their doubters in the convincing 2-0 win over Liverpool. Questions were asked about the Gunners' credentials as title contenders after home defeats to Borrussia Dortmund in the Champions League and their exit from the Capital One cup at the hands of rivals Chelsea. But the London-based side responded in style and class to extend their lead on top of the EPL while Chelsea stumbled at Newcastle by losing 2-0. However, other big questions awaits the Gunners this week as they face Borrussia Dortmund in mid-week and a resurgent Manchester United at Old Trafford. Another positive answer would send a resounding message to both their rivals and doubters.

TALES ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLETS

The performances of Nigeria's Golden Eaglets at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar has had many tongues wagging. Most of the tales about this Manu Garba tutored-side, especially from foreign coaches, is that the boys are over-aged. Though the validity of their reservations cannot be ruled out entirely because of past occurrences, I must comment that this is one of the youngest Nigerian U-17 side for years and therefore would presume these over-age claims by foreigners as pure jealousy. These claims are arising because of the ease and maturity with which the Eaglets dismantle their opponents and at the same time scoring goals for fun. Had the Eaglets not performed well, these tales wouldn't have surfaced. Infact, they are only two more wins from becoming world champions again in this cadre and i'm hoping they win it. I also hope the NFF integrate this group into the senior national side - the Super Eagles. Talents like Iheanacho, Yahaya, Okon, Awoniyi, Success, etc should be well nurtured.

DOMINANT VETTEL

Serbastian Vettle cruised to victory in Abu Dhabi to record his seventh consecutive victory and underscore his dominance of Formula 1. The victory added to his overall magnificent performance this season with 11 wins that has helped him become F1 Drivers Champion for the fourth consecutive year. The 26-year-old remains in contention to equal both Micheal Schunacher's all- time record of 13 victories in one season and Alberto Ascari's of nine consecutive F1 grand prix wins, which have stood for 60 years. The combination of Vettel's skills and Red Bull's ingenuity in manufacturing pacy race cars have made the Australian a dominant force and that looks set to continue to the next future.

With that we will wrap it up for this week. Be a Sport Fan not a fanatic as you enjoy ALL THE SPORTS this week. Cheers!
