Minister doles out N2.2million to corps members

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed, Friday gave out cash rewards of N2.2 million to 14 corps members of the 2010 Batch ‘A’ set for their outstanding performances in the territory during their service year.
Speaking during the presentations, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director- General, Brig-General Maharazu Tsiga said the awards will serve as source of motivation to corps members to enable them render more selfless and dedicated services to the nation.

While commending the FCT minister for his unflinching support to the scheme, Gen. Tsiga called on various state governments to give prominence to the welfare and security of corps members serving in their states.

Eight of the corps members who bagged ‘Honours Awards’, received cash rewards of N200,000 each, while six others that got ‘Commendation Awards’, got N100,000 each.

Those who received awards were Dr Okebaram Chukwudi, Dr Emwanta Egbe, Eze Chukwuma, Adeleke Adenike, Dr Madugwulike Chijioke, Obi Laurentia, Aledare Elisha and Ofurum Vivian.

Others included Akindeji Moronke, Chinonso Stephen, Offoboche Patience, Emmanuel Sule, Galadima Grace and Ojomo Michelle.

Responding, NYSC FCT State Co-ordinator, Mrs Linda O. Amugo, commended the FCT Minister for implementing an upward review of the cash awards from the previous amounts of N100,000 to N200,000 for the ‘Honours Award’ as well as N100,000 instead of N50,000 for the ‘Commendation Award’.

She lauded the awardees for their outstanding contributions towards the development of their host communities and called on other corps members to emulate them in order to have their names written in gold.

One of the awardees, Dr Emwanta Egbe said, he was moved with compassion to provide free medical services and give free drugs to people in his host community in Gwagwalada Area Council.

He said that the award will spur him into rendering more selfless and people-oriented services to the society, in whatever capacity he finds himself.

In another development, the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, Friday donated a Toyota Corolla car to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), FCT Secretariat, for their official use.

The Minister said the donation of the car is to enhance effective  monitoring and supervision of corps members activities in the territory .

Speaking during the official presentation of the vehicle, NYSC Director-General, Brig-General Maharazu Tsiga commended the minister for the donation and said the NYSC’s management shall remain grateful to him for giving the car at a time the scheme is placing emphasis on monitoring and supervision of corps members.

Funny how time flys just yesterday I was in MDG (NYSC) now its all over. Its all started like a joke n today I can stand tall and say I have contributed my little to the society. I was in group 2,but at the end am happy because I got a recommendation for doing what makes me happy and puting smiles on people faces. Yummy... MDGs big up
