SKIN BLEACHING ISSUES FOR LADIES
Looking good comes with a price. Yeah, you may be attractive like Tonto Dikeh or designer Ugonna Umeruo, but have you thought about your life twenty years from now?
Apparently, skin bleaching is in vogue. While black ladies bleach, white ladies tan (and bleach too). I’m not against these beauty routines but I must confess I’m usually perplexed to see ladies you least expect bleaching! Is bleaching/tanning actually done as a status symbol or to impress the opposite sex? Emmy Collins once noted the following on his blog (and I quote verbatim ac literatim): “To the ladies, I say, any man who considers you ugly as result of your dark skin isn’t worth spending another second with. My advice to you would be to get as far away as possible from such a guy.
The bad effects of bleaching and tanning are enormous. One cannot even begin to prognosticate the health/medical implications. Like Sarah Webb wrote,
Tanning and bleaching are very similar in that both can be severely detrimental to a person’s health, especially for those who can’t afford vetted, high-quality bleaches. Of course most people survive these practices, but not without long-term damage to their skin and overall health… In Europe, certain whitening cosmetics once contained white lead which could cause symptoms as serious as blindness or paralysis.
Sadly, Nigerian skincarepreneursSadly, Nigerian skincarepreneurs buy a lot of whitening cosmetic products in Europe. So can we see the imported health problems they bring to most unsuspecting clients especially our so-called “celebrities”? I still love my ebony black beautiful African skin. Posted by: Patt Ogar
