Pakistani court bans Valentine's Day

A judge in Pakistan has ruled on Valentine's Day,putting a ban on celebrating the Christian holiday Monday. A city-wide blackout on all V-Day promotions was also enforced.

Court petitioner, Abdul Waheed had said that it violated Islamic teachings. He said that instead of love, it promoted “immorality, nudity and indecency,” according to newspaper Dawn.

The Islamabad court agreed, prohibiting any official or public events celebrating Valentine’s Day in addition to its media ban.

Last year Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain told his countrymen to stick to their studies and avoid indulging in a date that had “no connection” to their culture.
