ALL THE SPORTS with Ime Morison
Another weekend of action- packed sporting activities has just elapsed... Our 'sportsman' Ime Morison brings to you the major highlights of the sporting weekend in ALL THE SPORTS.
SHATTERED AND BATTERED...
Arsenal's dream of the Premier League title was shattered and battered in a 6-3 mauling at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Following their 2-0 mid-week defeat at Napoli in the Champions League, the Gunners were again on the edge as Man City's strength, depth, quality and superior squad out-played, out-muscled and out-scored them to leave their dreams of winning the EPL in tatters.
Arsene Wenger's men still top of the table but their lead could be reduced to two points if Chelsea win Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal would also play Chelsea in their next game at the Emirates Stadium.
Meanwhile, the win ensured City narrowed the gap against their rivals to three points and maintained their unbeaten home record at the Etihad Stadium so far this season in the Premier League. City have now scored in 58 consecutive Premier League home games,a run stretching back to a 0-0 draw with Birmingham in November 2010. City have also scored 35 league goals at home this season.
BATTLING CHELSEA
Chelsea battled to secure a 2-1 victory over a rejuvenated Crystal Palace side at Stamford Bridge, to take advantage of Arsenal's thrashing at the Etihad Stadium.
The Blues took the lead through Fernando Torres, who reacted quickly to tap-in after Willian's shot rebounded off a post. Palace equalized courtesy of a Marouane Chamakh's volley from a Joel Ward cross before Ramirez scored an impressively curled effort to restore Chelsea back in front.
Petr Cech then produced a string of second-half saves to deny Jason Puncheon, Damien Delaney and Stuart O'Keefe as the hosts scraped to victory.
The win moves Chelsea to within two points of leaders, Arsenal, and a win against their London rivals a week on Monday could see them leapfrog the Gunners.
It seems Mourinho is finally enjoying it again in England after a patchy reunion with the Club fans...Blue roses?
IRREPRESSIBLE SUAREZ...
Captain of the day, Luis Suarez, produced an irrepressible performance as he scored two goals and led Liverpool to a 5-0 thrashing of Tottenham at White Heart Lane. Henderson, Sterling and Flanagan got the other goals for Liverpool.
The Reds were without their inspirational skipper,Steven Gerrard, who was side-lined with an injury but Suarez took the armband and inspired Liverpool to an impressive victory. The Uruguayan has amassed 14 goals in eight Premier League games and 17 goals in all competitions this season.
The win represented Liverpool's biggest ever win at the Lane and moves them to second place on the log ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City.
AFRICAN OLYMPICS...coming soon?
Elana Mayer, the first athlete to win an Olympic medal in South Africa's post - apartheid era has urged the International Olympics Committee, IOC, to grant South Africa the Olympics as a tribute to the life of Nelson Mandela.
Elana, who won a silver medal in the 10,000m at the 1992 Games in Barcelona, after South Africa's re-admission to the Olympic movement, believes the influence of Mandela, who died last week, aged 95, was crucial from the moments he emerged from 27 years imprisonment in 1990.
"If Olympic Games can come to Africa and South Africa it will be in honour of Madiba. I think it's time. It's Africa's time. It would be a fitting way to honour a great leader,"She said.
An Olympic Games in Africa is long overdue, though i would habour reservations about it going to South Africa but the truth is, no other African country at the moment possess the logistics and technical experience to organize an event of such magnitude apart from South Africa but as a tribute to Mandela...? Who could begrudge that...? I certainly wouldn't!!!
RONALDO MUSEUM
Real Madrid and Portugal Superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, has opened a museum in his honour at his native Madeira. The museum would exhibit the more than 125 awards and mementos the player has gathered so far in his career as well as future trophies.
The Portugal international commissioned the museum in front of a frenzy of reporters and fans. Speaking at the occassion, Ronaldo said "Here is the evidence of what I have won, no one will take it away from here and these were things I wanted to share with my fans, show them what I have already achieved."
Ronaldo won the prestigious 2008 Ballon d'Or title, formerly known as the Fifa World Player of the year title, while with Manchester United. Before moving to Spain in then-world record £80m transfer to Real Madrid in 2009, he had won three Premier Leagues, one Champions League, one FA Cup, two League Cups, and one Fifa World Club Cup. He has also won the Copa del Rey in 2010-11 and La Liga in 2011-12 as well as two Golden Boot awards for being European football's top scorer.
Ronaldo is competing with Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery for 2013 Ballon d'Or, which will be announced at a ceremony in Zurich on 13 January. Real fabulous, stylish, classy and swaggalicious guy....
That's it for this week. Don't forget to share your thoughts with us by leaving a comment about this week's highlight. Have a sport-fulfilled week ahead. Cheers!

ALL THE SPORTS by Ime Morison
In a weekend in which South Africa, the World and indeed Sports mourn the death and/or celebrate the life of an icon- Rhohilala Nelson Madiba Mandela- with a minute silence or ovation; actions on the pitch were most unpredictable. Our sports columnist shall bring you insights into the major surprises...over the weekend in ALL THE SPORTS.
NIGERIA DRAWS ARGENTINA AGAIN...
The Super Eagles of Nigeria has been drawn for the fourth time in the World Cup against Argentina. In the ceremony held in the Amazon city of Sauipe, on Friday, Nigeria was fortunate to land a relatively easy grouping, consisting Iran, Bosnia and Heczegovina, though the rivalry with Argentina is set to continue ...
Other groups at the World Cup are:
GROUP A: BRAZIL, CAMEROON, CROATIA, MEXICO.
GROUP B: CHILE, SPAIN, NETHERLANDS, AUSTRALIA.
GROUP C: COLUMBIA, GREECE, IVORY COAST, JAPAN.
GROUP D: ENGLAND, ITALY, URUGUAY, COSTA RICA.
GROUP E: SWITZERLAND, ECUADOR, FRANCE, HONDURAS.
GROUP F: ARGENTINA, NIGERIA, BOSNIA, IRAN.
GROUP G: GERMANY, PORTUGAL, GHANA, U.S.A.
GROUP H: BELGUIM, ALGERIA, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA.
CHELSEA IN TROUBLE ...
A furious Jose Mourinho decried Chealsea's woes after seeing his team slip to an embarassing 3-2 defeat against Stoke City at the Brittannia Stadium. Chelsea had been ahead through an Andre Schurrle strike but soon found themselves behind when Stephen Ireland found the bottom corner following a swift Stoke counter attack. Peter Crouch had equalised for Stoke through a corner.
Chelsea fought back to level terms with another Schurrle thunderbolt. Shurrle could have gotten a hatrick but was denied by the woodwork and Stoke ultimately profited from another counter to score a third and grab a dramatic win.
The result underlined Chelsea's defensive frailty as they have conceeded more than six goals in the last three matches, which is a troubling statistics to Mourinho.
MOYES' WOES
Newcasttle recorded their first win 41 years at Old Trafford to deepen David Moyes' woes at Manchester United. Yohann Cabaye scored Newcasttle's only goal and with the mid-week defeat at home to Everton, the support-base for Moyes within United faithfuls is dwindling. Though the crowd at the Stretford End applauded and sang their manager's name, a vast majority of the Old Trafford crowd were long gone with much of the match left. Hmmmmmmm...such a blatant display of lack of faith...Woeful indeed!
ADVANTAGE GONE...
Arsenal failed to take advantage of their rivals slip-up to extend their lead on the table to seven points, as they could only draw 1-1 with Everton at the Emirates. The Gunners were ahead through record-signing Mesut Ozil but were denied victory when substitute Gerard Deulofeu smashed Everton level.
Though they still lead with five points, Arsenal now face testing trips to Naples in the Champions League and the Etihad Stadium to face Napoli and Manchester City respectively. As well as a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.
Failure to excell in these ties could define Arsenal's season ...
In other results, Manchester City played out a 1-1 draw with Southampton at St Marys; Liverpool defeated West Ham 4-1; Tottenham edged Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Lights; Fulham defeated Aston Villa 2-0; Norwich City secured a 2-0 away win at the Hawthorns, over Westbrom; Crystal Palace defeated Cardiff City 2-0 at Selhurst Park while Swansea City played --- with Hull City.
BALLON D'OR SHORTLIST
Cristiano Ronaldo, Franck Ribery and Lionel Messi have made the final shortlist for FIFA's Ballon D'or 2013. The trio were chosen from a 23-man list.
The award which now honours the World's Best Player of the year was introduced by French Football Magazine in 1956 to honour the European best footballer, and had Standley Matthews as the first winner. In the women's category, Nadine Angerer(Germany), Marta (Brazil) and Abby Wambach(USA) have been norminated.
Sir Alex Ferguson, Jupp Heynckes and Jurgen Klopp have been norminated for coach of year while Ralf Kellermann, Silvia Neid and Pia Sundhage are the women coaches norminated.
Fifa also confirmed the final norminees for FIFPRO WORLD XI, team of the year to include Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Mesut Ozil, Van Persie, Luis Suarez, Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, Petr Cech, Gareth Bale, Ashley Cole, Sergio Aguero, Leighton Baines, David Luis, Nemanja Vidic, Branislav Ivanovich, David Silva etc.
Don't forget to enjoy the best of club football on Tuesday and Wednesday as Champions League returns this week...We'll be back and better next week...Cheers!

SPORTS
ALL THE SPORTS with Ime Morison
Mid-week Premier League games returned this week. This edition of ALL THE SPORTS would round-up all the major actions...
Arsenal maintained their four points lead on the summit of the league with a 2-0 home win over Hull. Nicklas Bendtner scored his first goal for Arsenal in almost three years, in his first Premiership start of the season. The other goal was scored by Mesut Ozil.
An 'amazing' display from Eden Hazard ensured Chelsea remained second on the log. The Belgian scored two stunning goals to cap a brilliant performance in the 4-3 win over Sunderland. Frank Lampard and a bizarre own-goal from Phil Bardsley were the other Chelsea goals while Altidore, John O'Shea and Phil Bardsley scored for Sunderland.
Luis Suarez delivered a virtuoso performance for Liverpool at Anfield to keep them third. The Uruguayan scored four goals and an assist in Sterling's goal as they thrashed Norwich City 5-1. Johnson got City's consolation goal. Suarez has now scored 11 goals in five games against Norwich City.
Manchester City survived a late rally from Westbromich Albion to win 3-2 at the Hawthorns. Two goals from Yaya Toure and a goal from Sergio Aguero had City cruising but an own-goal by City's keeper Costel Pantimillion with eight minutes to go and a late finish from Victor Anichebe almost rocked the boat.
A Bryan Oviedo late finish handed Everton their first win in 21 years over Manchester United at Old Trafford and ends United 10 games unbeaten run. The win ensured Everton returned to haunt their former manager and continues United's faltering start to the season under David Moyes.
In other results, Swansea City defeated Newcastle 3-0 with goals from Dyer, Debuchy's own-goal and Jonjo Shelvvy. Crystal Palace defeated West Ham United courtesy of a Maroune Chamack solitary strike. Aston Villa ended Southampton's home record in their 3-2 win at St Marys. Agbonlahor, Kozak and Delph were on the score sheet for Villa while Rodriguez and Osvaldo scored for Southampton. Stoke City and Cardiff City played a goalless draw. Tottenham beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage with wonder strikes from Chiriches and Holtby. Dejagah got Fulham's only goal.
I hope you enjoyed the games ...looking forward to the weekend already. Ciao!

The next festival is scheduled for 29 May to 1 June 2014.

ASUU Again

Is it not strikingly significant that on the day ASUU will begin the funeral rites of our state 'murdered' ex-president, Professor FESTUS IYAYI, that Nyesom Wike/GJ are ordering academics back to class or get sacked! It's actually interesting that we'll all lose our jobs come December 4th, 2013;
what an honour to the man who has fought all his life, with brain, pen and hand, to better an educational system that the politicians want to rubbish. It's not really surprising that it's only in Nigeria that a whole Minister for Education hasn't got any graduate degree not to talk of a PhD. That's why he does not know that a PhD is the basic minimum degree to get a university lecturer-ship. I hope Wike's preparing his area-boys in Rivers state to over-run the universities come Dec.4th?! God Save Nigeria from state mediocrity. RIP dear Comrade

ASUU WAHALA

Hmm...I find our Honourable Minister of Education (whose volume of education I cannot quantify!) very interesting. It's like he likes wrestling, looking back at the recent mace-battering drama in his Rivers' home State Assembly. Upon all his bravura, he seems to have forgotten that his state has fallen to APC.
Beyond this, does he need to dare ASUU at a time that the Union was almost re-thinking its position because of Mr President's intervention? Has he really got the ear of the President in this recent outburst? Does this Hon.Minister Nyesom (without an ordinary PhD) know that it takes 15 years to make one University Academic?
By the way, did ASUU shut down Universities? The authorities that shut them down can re-open them and maybe bring in the likes of Hon Minister Nyesom and his Boys to teach...after all we do not even have the problem of brain-drain seeing how many graduates litter our unemployment streets. I think people who run government affairs should remember that they hold office on behalf of the people even when these positions come as presidential largesse...

On the 9th of November, 2013 Kebe Ikpi and former Miss
Esther Efoli were joined in Holy matrimony at the Redeemed Christian
Church of God, RCCG-Root of Jesse Calabar. The Traditional marriage was on the
6th of November, 2013 at Nko in Yakurr LGA, CRS.
Kebe is a Thespian from the University of Calabar. He is an award winning Director who has staged plays across the country both as a student and after he left school.
@kebelive
I recall the play AIREGIN staged at the University of Jos, Plateau State, directed by Kebe. In that play, he used his directorial rights to creatively restructure the original play. What came out was a prophesy. A prophesy that a Northerner will take over from Chief Obasanjo as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that Northerner will be taken away by mother nature (death), a man from the Niger-Delta will succeed him (first without election but by massive support of the people). If you remember the Nigerian political history very well, you will not need to guess what am talking about. 4 years after that play was staged, President Jonathan succeeded Late President Yar'Adua as C-in-C of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
